A guru to fine actors like like Anupam Kher, Naseeruddin Shah and Om Puri, theatre stalwart Ebrahim Alkazi breathed his last on Tuesday. Among the many tributes that have poured onto social media since, is that of Ranga Shankara. Bengaluru's cultural hub, on its Facebook page, posted a note highlighting the stalwart's illustrious career, making mention of the two-time Sangeet Natak Academy awardee's receipt of the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan, too, and crediting him with revolutionizing modern Indian theatre.

The Ranga Shankara team added a personal message too, that read, "The colossus has left! He will always be remembered for the enormous wealth of his teachings that continue through his students all over the world! Pranaam Alkazi Sahab. (Sic)"
Among those who took to social media to pen a line of tribute to the doyen, were PM Narendra Modi and several actors as well. While Anupam Kher posted a video in which he reminisced about everything he learned from his “acting guru”, Kamal Haasan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Manoj Bajpayee, Randeep Hooda, among others, posted messages on their Twitter pages. “The magician who nurtured many greats of theatre. May your brightest spark from the heaven keeps us enlightening, (Sic)” said Nawazuddin on Twitter. Amitabh Bachchan, too, penned a line on his blog that read, “And another friend lost. Kolkata days.. younger brother of ex boss.. gone suddenly.” Kannada theatre actor and singer, MD Pallavi summed up her thoughts in one line, “Farewell. Thank you for the dream.”
